Cocoa practised back-riding first in the nesting box. At first,
she wasn't very strong and fell off easily. She'd also get cold
quickly and start to shiver, and so she'd dive back into the warmth
and security of her mother's pouch. She became stronger fast, and
soon made a nuisance of herself bouncing around the nesting box while
Ginger tried to sleep.
In the early trips, Cocoa once fell off the roof onto the balcony
with a loud thud. She then made a little distressed noise, or her
version of the adult threatening hiss/bark/cough/snore sort of noise
that possums make. She managed to scrabble up onto the balcony
railing, and from there seemed to become more confident. She seemed
to possibly think of GK as some kind of tree, and made some attempts
to climb him to get back to the roof. (He is a considerably taller
'tree' than me.) In the end, GK picked her up and put her back on
the roof with Ginger.
